Denton Completes Major Precision Optics Program. Customer Applications Development Center Reduces Customer Time to Market

December 06, 2013

Moorestown, NJ, December 06, 2013 — Denton Vacuum LLC, a leading supplier of production scale thin film technology systems, announced today that it had completed a major precision optics program with a global provider of high value technical services.

“This comprehensive program demonstrates how Denton Vacuum delivers breakthrough results to precision optics manufacturers,” said Vince McGinty, president of Denton Vacuum.

The program provided this first-time user of optical coating products with two high-volume manufacturing cells. The program included:

– The design, fabrication and installation of two Integrity® 36 E-beam evaporation systems. Engineered to this user’s specific requirements, the systems provide high volume manufacturing capability and included unique integration to the user’s factory automation system.

– Training of customer engineering and manufacturing staff. Teams from multiple customer locations were resident at Denton’s Customer Applications Development Center (CADC) in Moorestown, NJ over a four-month period. In that time they were trained on Denton Integrity systems, designed, fabricated and characterized prototype optics, and trained to be ready for a rapid production qualification of their new Denton systems.

– Denton service and process engineers supported final installation at the customer site and completed systems qualification against an aggressive timeline.

“More than training, our Customer Applications Development Center shortened this customer’s time to market by several months,” said McGinty. “Most suppliers offering optical coating equipment force their customers into a serial project time line. Machine acquisition is followed by installation, then training, and finally the customer’s staff is ready to characterize and production qualify the system. This last step can take weeks or even months. Here, we moved in parallel and dramatically shortened the project schedule.”

Denton’s CADC includes a suite of e-beam evaporation, thermal evaporation, and sputtering tools dedicated full-time to customer support. Recent customer projects in the CADC include work on medical diagnostic devices, medical implants, ultrasonic transducers, and a variety of semiconductor applications.
